Future Projects

I like to tinker, modify, build, hack, design, or otherwise mess with things. Here is a running list of all the crazy ideas I have spawned but not yet acted upon. Projects that become more than sketches and thoughts will get their own page linked here, and those which are officially under way will be moved to the Projects page.

There is no order in priority nor any gaurantees they will ever exist.

  • Monowheel
    I just had to go look up monowheels on Wikipedia, and now I want one. Knowing me, it will be ONE GIANT BRUSHLESS MOTOR.

    • Spokeless bicycle
      Spokes are boring. Rims riding on motorized perimeter support rollers is where it’s at.
  • Reverse-Mouseball Drive
    A two-dimensional one-wheel balancing personal transporter vehicle using a drive concept seen on some experimental balancing robots. The vehicle sits on a large rubber ball with drive rollers in the X and Y axes to balance, and an additional Z-axis pivot motor to turn. Fully holonomic motion in a 2D plane. Tilt movement and steering. Do odd things like move around the floor in spirals. Completely useless for any other purpose.
  • Tesla Turbine
    What else do you expect me to do with a literal pile of hard drive platters? With an attached steam boiler to boot.
  • Rotary Subwoofer
  • Railgun with automatic projectile loading and rapid fire ability, up to the limit of what rail erosion will allow. Experiments to ascertain this will be done first.
    • Coilgun with the same.
  • LOLriojet, the logical extension of LOLrioKart. Will need to secure a suitable flying chassis first, probably some piece of office furniture.
    • Miniature turbojet engine using automotive turbocharger(s)
  • Light personal helicopter

  • Super LOLriokart: 4 wheel drive, 4 wheel steering, 4 independent suspensions.
  • Subway & Bus Surfing bipedal robot. ’nuff said.
  • VTOL Platform
  • Mechanical Targeting Computer (that Cannot Work Without Men™).
    I’m not sure what it will be targeting, but it’s a random MechE exercise. The playlist is epic.
  • Walking Spider Couch, using real multi-DOF legs, either tetrahedral legs or conventional pin-jointed legs. None of that Klann/Jansen camwalker cheating…
  • IRL Transformer, probably a Decepticon.
  • Voith-Schneider Drive
  • Road-legal EV
    The plotting has begun. No less than 100kW per ton and the best battery technology available. May or may not be diesel- or turbo-electric.
